The SS-36H Pneumatic Loading Lapping Machine, manufactured by the Lapmaster Wolters Group, is based on the 36-inch standard lapping machine.
Pressure weights are connected to the cylinder connecting rod via self-aligning bearings. The cylinder is mounted on the crossbeam above the lapping plate.
The main function of the pneumatic system is to eliminate manual handling of pressure weights during loading and unloading. It can also apply additional pressure to workpieces as per customer requirements.
The standard configuration of this machine uses loose abrasives. Water and diamond emulsion are available as optional configurations upon customer request.
Operator safety is a key priority in the machine's design. A two-hand safety relay controls the vertical movement of the pressure plate. Since simultaneous pressing of both hands is required to start the operation, it ensures that the operator's arms are not injured when the pressure weights descend.
Another safety feature is the ability to lock the pressure weights at any position, preventing them from falling if the air or power supply is suddenly cut off.
The flatness of the lapping plate and workpieces can be adjusted by repositioning the conditioning ring on the lapping plate.
The lapping plate drive system is equipped with an independent motor, worm gear reducer and belt drive.
